United Polaris Class Travel Day to Athens During COVID-19
We pulled into the park dia lot at 6am and a shuttle promptly pulled in behind us. talk about timing! It was a full shuttle ride with a family heading to Disneyland and a southwest pilot. This was probably the best shuttle ride we’ve ever had! The pilot pulled out his iPad and showed the family the route they would go to get to Cali and how the plane would be guided in on the runway. It was actually really neat to watch. We all gave him a huge thank you for starting our day that way.
Once dropped at the airport we headed straight to the United desk. I
was expecting to see barely any employees but that was not the case!
Every kiosk had a person plus they had 4 people manning the digital
stations. Someone came over to immediately, checked all of my paperwork, and we were all set!
We headed to security and I just gotta say that getting TSA precheck was the best decision ever.
FINALLY we got to use our United lounge passes that come with our United card 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Our first time in an airport lounge
All of the snacks were prepackaged and unimpressive, but at least they were free.
we eventually left and found a quiet spot behind a wall at the gate
Our first leg of the flight was Denver to Chicago and was relatively uneventful except for some minor weather. We had a couple of hours to kill in Chicago so went hunting for some food.
We were not impressed with the food choices at Chicago concourses b & c AT ALL.
We walked all through C and there was really nothing besides a food court so went back to B and this is the only sit down option
We still had an hour before boarding but went to make sure we knew where our gate was and make sure nothing crazy had happened…
We showed up at the perfect time. They were calling for every passenger to come to the desk and get all of their paperwork checked and a green sticker on their passports.
Guess who were the first passengers on board…the gate agent said we were her favorite
Our next layover was Belgium. The Brussels airport is very similar to London in my opinion. You walk through all of the shops and they only announce your gate shortly before boarding.
We departed Brussels in business class on Aegean Airlines. On this flight I started feeling a bit nauseous..,probably a mix of no sleep, motion sickness and wearing a mask for as long as we did.
We arrived at Athens at 3:15 and shuttled from the tarmac. Nate’s bag came quickly but mine never appeared. The sign flashed red that all luggage had been delivered. Well, not mine and one other lady’s. We went to the agent who told us to just keep waiting.
We had a transfer service waiting for us outside and I started to panic.
The lady and I went back to the agent and she said someone had just called and said they found a missing bag and were bringing it from the back. I would have bet you it was the other lady’s but it was mine! I had waited an hour. I gave her my condolences and she said better she than me (she was greek).
Surprisingly, the driver had waited for us. We made our way to his
vehicle but the second we pulled out of the lot, he was pulled over 🤦♀️
I still don’t know what happened but we sat there for 30 minutes and I had to give my passport to the police.
