2019 Jewel of the Seas Greek Isles Cruise - Oia, Santorini
Just as I did last year I pre-booked our Santorini water taxi online for 15 euros each.
We
used the Aegean Traveller again. While I do recommend them it seemed
like this year they were much more chaotic than last and they had
trouble finding my proof of payment because I had paid via paypal. The
first taxi was at 8:30. As you’ll find out later we didn’t end up using
the bus service (included in our ticket price) from Oia to Thira.
We
took the first tender from the ship and had about an hour to kill
before it got there. While we were waiting we met 2 couples who we ended
up chatting with the whole time. Never did see them again after we got
off the bus in Oia.
the beautiful view from the water taxi:
The water taxi pulled into Ammoudi Bay and we made the small hill climb
to the bus to take us up to Oia. Again we got on first (like last year)
and got seats at the front.
I
had a few missions in mind 1) go back to the shop I had made all of our
purchases at last year 2) get pictures at the tiny church we weren’t
able to last year and 3) gopro time lapse the walk down from Thira to
the tender.
First stop...the store!
The same little old man was working. We
told him we remembered his dogs from last year and asked how they were.
He said they’re at home snoozing on the couch. LOL.
What a kind man. He thanked us for returning and gave us a canvas Santorini bag as a gift.
It was already so busy!!!
The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants house:
We were hungry and had seen all we wanted in Oia so headed to the cafes right in front of the city bus/taxi stop
I had a strawberry, banana, nutella chocolate crepe and it was EVERYTHING!
We
finished eating and headed down to the transfer bus pick up area. It
was complete chaos!!! we knew just from the looks of the line that there
was no way we’d make it on the bus and would have to stand in the heat
for another hour.
We decided it was worth it to taxi. 30euros for 2
from Oia to Thira...quick ride...not crammed in a bus full of
people...priceless
